Saved my butt but has some problems August 28, 2008 Marcus (New Auburn, WI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I would have given it a 3 maybe even a 2 but this case saved my butt where other cases probably wouldn't have. my first impression of the case was that it fits perfectly with minimal interference to the clarity of the screen or to the use of buttons. easy access to the various plugs and sd card slot, and it doesn't add much bulk. Problems: scratches easily. not a problem. i could still see the screen easily and i expected this to happen. unpreventable with a plastic case at this cost. better the case than the zen. case started to press on the screen of the zen showing that liquidy distortion. i took of the case(which is very difficult by the way) and saw that firstly there was no water under there and that these areas had little dimples in the Creative Screen Protector i bought from creative(which is a must have in my opinion). now that really sucks! thank god i had the other protection. im not sure if the same thing would happen on the zen itself but i would not use this case without the zen screen protector. but seeing that the dimples are already there and the screen protector was protecting it i continued to use the case. i still saw the little liquid distortion on the edges but nothing i couldn't deal with. one of the snaps on clasps the connect the two case covers broke. i don't know how it broke. i think it probably happened because of the "big fall". but this actually had some good consequences. the case still held with fairly good strength and the pressure was relieved off the screen so no more distortion. it is also much easier to pull it off when i need to. the case stays on and will never come off unless you have a big drop. which sounds bad but it still protects fairly well as you will show you. Pros: Handles falls: i was lying and listening to my zen on the top bunk in a hostel and to my horror i dropped my zen from about 1.7 meters(about 5 foot 6 inches) high on a hard floor. "oh $#!t" i got down, quickly to check it out. so the case exploded off and the two pieces were lying there. the zen had turned off. i prayed and pressed the switch to turn it on, and the light shinned down from heaven and it fired up without a hitch. i studied the unit for any scratches and could find none. luckily after the zen fell out of the case it didn't fly and bounce around. so in my opinion the case did its job even though the zen came out in the fall. im no ballistics expert but instead off all the energy of the fall going through the case into the zen the energy goes into the two flying case parts. the zen would be more at risk to be scratched but it leaves the internal workings protected. make sense? who knows? its probably designed so that it doesnt fall out but either way my zen is still in tact. conclusion: the case has good protection at a cost. resistant to a huge 1.7 meter fall but can press on the screen which can cause some dimples on the screen. although the creative screen protector can protect the zen from the dimples, who wants any dimples. i guess the real question is what other option do you have if you want a case that covers the the whole unit including the screen? the Creative Hard Plastic Case is the only one ive found and i heard has the similar screen problem and is bigger. pretty much, there is no real good protection for the zen. settle for half protection, such as a silicon. settle for a crappy looking and moderate protection of a leather case. or deal with this case. if i had to choose again, and as much as i hate to say it, i guess id go with the acrylic case with the must have creative screen protector combo. i was thinking maybe the leather case based solely on the screen protection but i don't want to deal with a flap flapping around, and i don't trust leather as much as acrylic. but for now ill deal with broken clasp case.
Zen Case July 13, 2008 Lisa Skelly I love love love this case! It protects from scratches so very well! Even tho the case was scratched in 5 minutes, at least the scratches were not on the player! Is sleek, compact, and has protected my player from numerous drops.
great value for the money June 21, 2008 Aaron Sheikewitz (Tracy, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although the Zen has been out for awhile there is still almost no accessories for it in stores. As far as I can see Amazon has the best selection. I chose this one and am quite happy with it. I was surprised to see it came with a belt clip which was a nice extra
Careful on never taking this off ever ! May 17, 2008 James J. Simpson (Michigan City IN.) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Once you put these on there next to impossible to get off and While I was trying to take mine off. One of the Plastic Snaps on the End broke off. So now one corner of the player is slightly open to Dust. Not much, but enough to give concern in a dirty environment. Also for some strange reason there is a Hole in the back of the case in which Dust has collected on the back of the Player. So from time to time I try to blow it out.
Nifty! May 14, 2008 K. Mays (Clune, PA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wish the clear was available when I bought this product, but SMOKE still looks pretty sharp. Clips on and off easily, durable... all-in-all, great buy!
