About Mio The story of Mio began in 1999 when it was created by entrepreneur and mother of three, Liz Dickinson. Like many of us, Liz balances family and career, leaving little time for fitness. After several unsuccessful attempts to achieve her fitness goals and shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child, Liz turned to a personal trainer for advice. While working with a trainer, Liz realized the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits, monitoring calorie intake, and using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn't a product available on the market that would easily help her follow her trainer's advice. Liz didn't have time to read labels and carry a calorie journal in her purse, nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. She knew there had to be a better way, so Liz used her technology and marketing savvy to create Mio, the world's first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap. And, it didn't stop with just heart rate, as Mio also has a patented calorie management system that offers a straightforward approach to managing your diet. With the help of Mio and a balanced diet, Liz was able to shed those unwanted pounds and gain the benefits that come with improved fitness: more energy, more vitality, and less stress, and help many others do the same with the creation of Mio's products.

MUST HAVE if you are serious about results December 6, 2008 digitialson (Connecticut) As a personal trainer for the last 10 years, I have been on the hunt for a great heartrate monitor that I can use with my clients. I tried the monitors with the additional straps and it was always a hassle trying to get the strap to be comfortable and getting a quick reading. The wait is finally over. I HAVE FOUND THE PERFECT WATCH. The Mio gives a quick read of not only the exact BPM but at the same time the percentage of max. heart rate. It is so easy to ask my clients "just watch that you stay at you 70% max heartrate" and all they do is keep an eye on that number to pop up when they take a reading. So easy, so accurate and so accesible to all body types. No worries that the strap wont get around my larger clients. Now my clients are motivated to monitor the heartrate and can get their results faster with accurate readings. It's also a great tool for calculating calories burned and has the usual watch features you would expect in a quality digital time piece. I like the light which remains on long enough and is bright enough for the darkness of the spinning class. I love this watch, wear it everyday and tell all my clients to buy it too.
Small wrist? No way. Band Too Large! October 19, 2008 M. Evans (Houston, TX) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I must be a genetic freak then, because I'm a small-framed 5'9" and this watch band is enormous on my wrist - there aren't any holes small enough for it to sit flush on my wrist. I thought the face would be smaller, but it's enormous compared to women's Timex or Polar HRM watches.
not worth the money September 26, 2008 Terri Rousseau 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mio PINK Sport Select Heart Rate Monitor Watch The monitor never worked from out of the box. I could NEVER get a resting heart rate & my exercising heart rate was always over 200! I tried using it while walking, hiking & in spin class. After reviewing it said that wetting finger tips would help with accuracy...NOT I even replaced the battery on a new product hoping that would solve the problems...NOT Currently in dispute with cc company to get money back or even exchange as buyer (tricitytrading) did not respond to 2 emails.
Mio Classic HRM August 9, 2008 Donna Stevens (Hesperia, California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was hoping for it to be just a tiny bit better. It was great for treadmill run or personal work outs. With a little practice it bacame pretty easy to get a heart rate and I think it is pretty close. And it was easy to figure out the programs. But when I was actually running on the street and trying to watch the road and keep up a good speed, I found it to be impossible to get a reading. If I slowed down I could get it, but slowing down is not what you want to do if you are trying to maintain a good speed. I tried several times and it just would not give me a reading no matter if I tried for a few seconds or 15 seconds. For a runner who changes speeds, this may not be the right item, but for the light work out or treadmill, I think it would do nicely.
Great heart rate monitor - as long as you aren't working out July 28, 2008 Erin N. Patterson (Ladera Ranch, CA) I did a fair amount of research before purchasing this heart rate monitor. I wanted a monitor without the chest strap, and of the available options, the Mio appeared to be the highest rated and best value. The watch fits me ok. The solid pink strap was to big for my wrist, so I use the smaller black and pink strap. I consider myself to be of "medium" build, my wrist mesures 6.5 inches on the spot where I wear the watch, and it fits with a few notches to spare. The monitor itself is very large (to be expected) and does not sit flush against my wrist, leaving gaps on the top and bottom. While this isn't exactly fashionable, it is not uncomfortable. The heart rate monitor is very easy to use if I am still and dry. It appears to be rather accurate, and is very close to the reading on the gym cardio machines. Once I get into my workout and start to sweat, it becomes increasingly difficult to get a reading. I have to stop, take the watch off, dry it, and stand still to measure my heart rate. Even then, it is not very consistent, and often gives a "half reading". By the time I have gotten a reading, I am sure my heart rate has dropped significantly, and I have to get back into my workout high again. It can be frustrating if you are trying to keep your heart rate within a certain level. I consider my workouts to be on the more intense side, so it is possible this would suit lighter workouts just fine. The only additional function I utilize is the workout timer, which also tracks the amount of calories burned. The timer, while very useful, appears to be 2-3 seconds faster than the gym cardio machines (and this holds true with all machines I have tried). The burned-calorie tracker, which works automatically when you start the cardio timer, is always significantly lower than the cardio machine's tracker. I'm not sure which one is more accurate, but after an hour, there is usually a 100 calorie difference. All in all, this watch has been disappointing. As much as I do not want to wear a chest strap, it looks like that is really the only option if you want an accurate reading all the time. I would recommend this for someone looking to track the heart rate throughout the day or during very mild exercise, but that's about it.
