Amazon.com Product Description The Griffin iTrip Auto FM Transmitter with SmartScan wirelessly sends music from your iPod to your car radio so you can listen on your car stereo speakers. It combines Griffin's renowned FM transmitter technology with an integrated charger. Designed specifically for use in the car, the SmartScan function makes it easier than ever to find the perfect frequency. SmartScan scans the radio dial for the three best frequencies and saves them to the preset buttons. The high-contrast display is easy to read in any light, and the three-stage light ring changes color to indicate charging status. Compatible with iPod (4G, 5G), iPod nano (1G, 2G, 3G), iPod Classic, and iPod touch.

decent if you get it into japanese mode. November 28, 2008 Philip J. Warburton If you live in/near a populated area, this thing is a piece of garbage unless you put it into international mode, then it works decently (although still not perfect). I read a lot of people saying they did it by going to settings - mode and holding down the middle button, which didn't work for me, it just gave the firmware version. I was about ready to throw the thing out, but then I got it to work by hitting the settings button, then holding down the "mode" button. It takes a while, but then I could pick US/EU/JP which allowed me to set it to 87.5, which my car stereo picks up, and there is no interference.
Compatible with the iPod Touch 2G November 8, 2008 Carmine Lavno (MA USA) I have been using a Kensington FM Transmitter (Model Number: K33185) for a few years now, until recently. I've purchased an iPod Touch [2nd generation] and learned that my Kensington FM Transmitter, that has worked wonderfully on my iPod Mini and iPod Touch [1st generation], is no longer supported with my iPod Touch [2nd generation]. According to a Kensington customer support representative; currently, there are no Kensington FM Transmitters compatible with the iPod Touch [2nd generation]. The Griffin iTip 4045-TRPAUTOS not only costs less on Amazon, but with some adjusting, works outstanding. The secret is to tune to FM 87.7 or FM 87.9 and remove your car's antenna (if you're able to). To tune to a frequency below FM 88.x, do this; select Function, select Mode, and hold down the middle button until the Griffin logo appears at the top. You can now tune to FM 87.7 or FM 87.9. I can't comment on the SmartScan functionality, because I haven't tried it out and I don't think I will.
Good value October 15, 2008 Stephen A. Slade (Montrose, CO USA) This fm transmitter does what the manufacturer and the reviews I read said it would do. Can't ask for much more. Saved over $30 buying on Amazon.
Works with 3g iPhone Perfect ..well almost. October 8, 2008 David L. Turpin (Kentucky) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First I contacted Griffin and that told me this would work with 3g iPhone but with a warning message. I hooked it up did a smart scan and used one of the three channels . Sounds great in my area. I think in some areas you may need to do a manual scan in some areas. It will ask if you want to put in airplane mode, just say no and that's it works like a charm. They have a model made just for the 3g but why pay $30+ more. I listen to podcasts to and from my 1 hour commute. Just what I was looking for.
Not worth the money September 22, 2008 Redsoxgrl33 (Boston, MA) This adapter is awful. No matter what "blank" station it finds, it still doesn't work. The sound is incredibly soft, and the static/"blank" station overpowers any music coming through. I bought this to replace the Monster charger I bought, thinking it would work better, but I'm going back to my cheap one. If you want an expensive car charger for your ipod, then buy this. Otherwise, don't waste your money. I wish I hadn't.
