Product Description These elegant portable drives are simple to use, light and easy to carry, and require no power adapter -- they are powered directly through the USB cable. Pack up your office files and take them home. Carry thousands of songs or pictures. Synchronize files between home and office and encrypt everything on the drive for added security. WD Sync synchronization and encryption software lets you take your critical data with you. Plug My Passport into any PC, edit files, read e-mail, and view photos. Then sync all of your changes back to your home or office computer. Your data is protected with 128-bit encryption (Windows only). Perfect for the business traveler who needs to transfer large amounts of data from laptop to clients or just daily backups in case of accidents from mishandled luggage to coffee spills. Also comes in handy if your worried about laptop theft and someone else having access to your important data, you can store it on this portable encrypted drive instead. For all those precious pictures, videos, music and data files, this external hard drive is a must-have.

Only a few things to make it better ... December 3, 2008 Brian D. Byrnes ... like putting a connection light/status light on the opposite end of the drive, instead of the end where the cord goes in. Why? Because the USB cord is so short that you can't necessarily see a status light unless you turn the drive to face you. The only other thing I struggle with is that it doesn't seem to connect through a USB expansion port (despite both being USB 2.0). Other than that, it's pretty cool, sleek, and the pre-loaded software has worked as indicated. Thumbs up all around.
My 3rd WD Passport and still going strong! December 3, 2008 Big Dawg (California) This is my 3rd of these Western Digital Passport drives, they are great! Have not had any problems with the older version of the passport. They run quiet and are very reliable. I used to carry the old clunky 3.5" external drives with the heavy power supply, now I can carry all my data without breaking my back. Just in my experience, WD drives are very dependable, I tend to stay away from Maxtor who has failed me 3x.
The right stuff December 2, 2008 Manfred Tuch (Palm Coast ,Florida) the Passport suits my intended use .I bought it to back up all my files and it worked like a charm .should any of my drives fail or my computer crash ,I still have everything on the WD Passport. It's a good feeling. M.W.Tuch
Does what a hard drive should December 2, 2008 D. Burtzos (DeKalb,IL USA) Picked this up for use as a backup disc for a MacBook using Apple's Time Machine. Runs flawlessly off bus power directly from the laptop. Running without a hitch for nearly 3 months at this point and warrantied for 3 years. Sleek, small, convenient. Have several WD externals and no complaints yet. Well worth it.
D.O.A. December 2, 2008 Scubanut (New Carrollton, MD United States) This drive was DOA. I tried using on Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista Home Premium systems and it didn't work on either. I must have got the dud drive and I returned it.
