Small Package Big Performance January 6, 2009 Jerry D. Hemmingson We purchased the Sony CMTBX1 to use for church services we do in a nursing home. We wanted something small enough to carry with us but able to deliver a better sound than a portable unit. The CMTBX1 has delivered big time. On homemade CD's it delivers sound and quality far beyond our expectations.
Sony cmtbx1 micro December 27, 2008 Rafael Melendez Boria These component system have a very good sound and features for the price. Very convenient size and portability, also plays cd and mp3's.
component-style boom box December 22, 2008 P. T. Greene (Massachusetts, USA) Could be a lot more intuitive to use--take a look at the tiny gray typeface against a dark background (somewhat indicating function for miniature buttons located on the top of the unit) under normal/low light conditions, and then add the remote control to the thirty others you probably need to have laying around your place. Isn't a volume control knob a LOT MORE FUN to crank up than the now-typical plus/minus tap-tap-tap? Bass and treble, too. One VC knob on the front, and this little baby might be golden. Then again, I'm not so totally impressed with the sound quality, as most other reviewers seem to be.
Very poor sound quality December 8, 2008 Chad Hetlet (West Des Moines, IA) Product works as advertised...plays cd's, am/fm radio works ok, but it sounds terrible. Has a hollow, lifeless sound that can't be fixed using the very limited EQ. It's ok for listening to talk radio, but if you want to listen to music with any life, bass/treble, depth, etc. then this thing should fall right off your short list. I know I can't expect a lot for $100.00, but this is bad.
Sony does it again! December 2, 2008 Jim S. (Houston, Texas USA) I bought my Sony CMT-BX1 Micro system a few weeks ago to replace an old boom box that finally died. The new Sony unit is very slim, is a pleasant charcoal and black color, and has matching speakers that sound GREAT! The small remote allows you to make some personalized settings that you need, but probably won't want to change, so why bother putting lots of buttons on the main unit? I haven't touched the remote since I finished setting up the main unit the way I want it (selecting FM stations, adjusting the sound, and programming the display). I have the CMT-BX1 right next to my desktop computer so I can listen to CDs all day long. After looking at a number of other competing units, some with lots more power, bigger speakers, etc. I decided to go low-key with the CMT-BX1 -- and I'm really glad I did. My home office is small, so I didn't need a system with tons of power. Sony, you've made the perfect system for me -- great sound, tasteful design, and affordable price. You've done it again!
