3 out of 5 stars Only fair at best   September 1, 2008

I've had this unit for about a year now. I find that I rarely listen to HD radio because even in the city, the radio keeps shifting between HD and analog. This is very annoying. If I lock it onto HD then the sound cuts out frequently. The HD sound is great, but the signal varies with distance from the station and among tall buildings. An undocumented feature is the radio picks up the one HD station on AM here. I find that the AM tuner is very weak and won't pick up weak signals as well as the radios in my other cars. Another annoyance is there is no way to keep the time displayed if the radio is off. You can only display the time for a few seconds by pushing the display button. All the secondary buttons are teensy.

5 out of 5 stars Great performance on a budget   May 17, 2008

I bought a newer used car with the factory radio and speakers. The sound was mediocre, and I was ready to replace the speakers and the head unit. I wanted the iPod jack which was available for this to hook in my ipod. There are two available: One is just a straight pigtail to hook in your ipod and use the ipod's controls, and another lets you control the iPod from the head unit.

The hi def radio with all the other brands required an additional purchase. The unit was a little unter $200 installed, and, I opted for the ipod controller which was about $25 at Circuit City.

The sound is crisp, the bass strong, and I no longer felt I needed to replace the speakers. The interface for handling the iPod is a little funky, though, and takes a lot of getting used to. The hi def radio is a noticeable improvement, but it doesn't always get a strong enough signal to activate.

All in all, the unit gets 5 stars for everything except the clunky controls.
