the best mp3 player ever! December 26, 2008 Bonnie Cates (playa del rey, ca United States) I love this player! I primarily bought it for audio books from the library (overdrive system), emusic, and audible.com. It has great pause, ff, rewind, and bookmark functions. If you get distracted and need to rewind or jump forward--it's just a tap of the stylus on the touch screen to get you there. Other players I've had did not have all these functions and were really frustrating to pick up a story where you left off. The Cowon D2 has everything you need for listening to long book files and the battery really does last for extended hours--a real bonus. It also plays music well--have not tried video as yet. You do have to remember to set the Cowon on "MTP" (USB connection) or you will screw up transferring the full book to the player since on MSC--it thinks you are transferring only short music files. The only negative is that the player is a little heavy to wear around my neck comfortably. Feels much better using an arm strap. I already have about 25 full length books plus music on the Cowon and haven't even had to use an external sd card yet. Unfortunately, you can't delete files directly from the Cowon--but that's only a small inconvenience compared to all the features you get. I researched mp3 players about a month before I chose this one and I am pleased with my choice.
Overrated December 24, 2008 Salvan Bonaminio (PA USA) I spent several weeks deciding which MP3 player to get, and finally decided on the D2. Aside from issues that seemed relatively minor to me, e.g. no support for m3u playlists, the D2 received nothing but praise. What I found was disappointing. First and foremost, I was reluctant to get a touchscreen. After receiving my D2, I realized I should have been more reluctant. I found the touchscreen to be incredibly non-responsive, to the point where I need to press a button 2 to 3 times. Furthermore, I have fairly large hands, using the scroll bar or even the arrows for navigation is incredibly difficult for me. Its file transfer rate is excruciatingly slow. I read it was slow before I purchased it, so I thought I was prepared, turns out nothing could have prepared me for the crawl-speed that the D2 transfers at. What really drew me towards the D2 was its sound quality and battery life. And the sound quality is excellent, though I find it bothersome you must manually change the equalizer setting. This could be a bit more intuitive, what's the point of having genre tags and playlists for separate genres if you have to go in and switch it manually each time? Or at least save the EQ setting for songs I specifically set it for. As for the battery life, I just have to question where the number of 52 hours came from? I haven't exactly sat down and tested the battery life, but it sure doesn't seem anywhere near 52 hours. The Cowon D2 isn't completely without redeeming qualities. Being able to change themes is nifty, though nothing ground breaking. Video playback is about what you'd expect. No drivers or software is needed to transfer files onto it, which again, not groundbreaking. But if you think in the slightest that the touchscreen, lack of playlists, or navigation might annoy you. You're probably right, and better off going with something else. I wish I would have listened to my gut and bought a Sansa Fuze, which was $60 cheaper at the time.
The Best! September 27, 2008 Rick S. Montani (Cleveland, OH) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a really great player. I just wanted a great FLAC (lossless music) player with great sound (it also plays wma and ogg). This plays videos and has a built in FM tuner also! The sound is really great, and it is powerful enough to drive large headphones. It will blow you ears apart if you are not careful. One other great thing is the screen. I don't baby my player. It goes in my pocket with change and keys. The screen is really scratch proof. I love it and I will gladly buy another if this one breaks.
Don't by Cowon products... September 6, 2008 P. S. Prasert (Rockville, MD) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have been thoroughly disappointed with their products and lack of customer service. They average about 2-3 weeks to return an email for customer service issues. I finally got through to a representative and was advised to send the product back to them, at my own expense and they emailed back about 1 month later stating that there is no problem with the item. When I emailed back with a detailed description of the specific situation I encountered (item stopped powering on or charging through the USB port) they ceased communication. I still haven't heard back from them, but will never buy their products ever again. They are terrible both at manufacturing and caring for their customers.
My friend likes it August 29, 2008 Mike Geibel (Pittsburgh, PA.) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Unfortunately have no 1st hand experience with this product, but a friend of mine in Russia asked me to bring him one when I visited. He had had the same brand for many years and wanted it again. Has had it almost a month now and is totally satisfied with it and the price,
