Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Pioneer AVIC-F700BT car stereo combines a multitude of functional entertainment capabilities with advanced navigation features that fit and expand the lifestyle of today's driver. The highly sophisticated in-dash navigation systems enable users to link and control their personal devices through optional accessories. Apple iPod connectivity, Bluetooth, MSN Direct, HD radio, XM and SIRIUS Satellite Radio, single CD, DVD video playback and compressed audio and video playback through USB and SD memory devices are among the numerous capabilities. Additionally, the unit offers an advanced conversational voice recognition system for hands-free dialing of compatible Bluetooth enabled cell phones and control of an entire music collection on an iPod player.

It also includes a USB interface for quick connection to iPod music players, portable media players and USB memory device. For extra convenience, SD memory filled with additional Points of Interest information or compressed audio and video, slides directly into the SD card slot located in front of each unit. When any external device is plugged in, the systems will instantly recognize the source allowing users access and control through the touch panel display and/or voice control (iPod only). Pioneer also added a mini-jack A/V input on the face of each unit for immediate connection to other portable devices, such as camcorders and video players.
The system utilizes flash memory to obtain quicker mapping information and allow an ?always on? navigation state. The comprehensive map database from Tele Atlas covers the entire United States, Canada, Alaska and Hawaii enabling users to route to millions of destinations. The database includes more than 12-million points of interest (POI), for destinations such as gas stations, ATMs, hotels and restaurants which can be easily searched either near a current location, or close to a specified destination.

4 out of 5 stars Not perfect but still good   November 9, 2008
Y. Ghamrawi (USA)
I installed this indash navi almost 2 months ago. It works good and every thing is OK. The Ipod cable is a must although it takes the unit around 5 minutes to play from the ipod.

The navigation system is not very hard to get used to it but still it's not like the easy user frindly interface of GARMIN.

4 out of 5 stars New update solves a TON of problems   October 30, 2008

Pioneer released version "2.0" of the firmware tonight and it addresses:
- Showing blank backgrounds on the map's upper left and right of the screen
- iPod connection dropping out
- better BlueTooth connectivity
and
- MUCH fast startup time (like 40% increase)

This update turns this unit from a "would not recommend" to a "would totally recommend"

5 out of 5 stars OnStar   October 3, 2008

I don't have a review of this product, yet, I have a question regarding Onstar service. I plan on installing this item in my 08 GMC Sierra p/u but my question is, will it interfere with the OnStar service. I understand OnStar uses the radio to operate and I haven't yet read or have been told if this radio works in concert with OnStar. Can anybody help me with this, or am I worried about nothing? Thanks

1 out of 5 stars dissapointing   September 22, 2008
J. Randle (your dreams)
The unit takes a nearly two minutes to boot up completly!! the bluetooth disconnects every two minutes from my blackberry, when I called the company they said "sorry, we havnt been able to make the avic stay connected to blackberry" the guy said that they havnt smoothed out the software glitches yet!! this unit seemed very apealing based on write up and specs. Unfortunatly using the the unit is a dissapointment.

cant use it for calls... what a waste

HEY PIONEER, PLEASE SMOOTH OUT THE GLITCHES BEFORE YOU RELEASE A PRODUCT.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing once you install the firmware upgrade   August 15, 2008

Pioneer has acknowledged that the first release of this system had issues ... freezing up, parking break warning for no reason, lack of proper brightness, etc. But they issued an upgrade in July of 2008. THIS UPDATE FIXES EVERYTHING.
I have this unit, I used it before the update (lots of problems -- all clearly explained in multiple posts all over the internet). But I downloaded the firmware, installed it, and now it works AWESOME. I truly have to give it to Pioneer for acknowledging their error and spending time to listen to owners and fix it.
I love this unit. I hook up my Iphone 3G and watch podcasts, listen to music, and everything. I have SM radio for it and I use the GPS all the time. I use the bluetooth with my iphone and the call clarity is fantastic.
I'm serious when I say this is a great value and much better than the D3 unit it replaced, but you have to install the firmware. Do that and I'll love it.
