have enjoyed the portable mount. purchased primarily with the concept of preventing thieves from detecting "the ring" on the windshield that the traditional mounts leave. was leary of how stable this would be and thought it might slide with driving, ie taking corners, however it stays put. liked the fact that nothing had to be permanently affixed to the dash and it able to be used in more than one vehicle. item fits under most car seats for storage as it would be big and a little heavy to put into a purse while shopping. connections were simple and price was great and a tremendous savings vs what they are in most box stores. worth the investment after what you spend on those gps's you want it to be secure when in use and help keep it out of the wrong hands when it is not. definitely would highly recommend.

I purchased this with my Garmin nuvii 260w and found it works very well on my dashboard in my Honda Odyssey. It is very stable and you are able to adjust in most any position for easy viewing. This mount allows ease of use without gluing or attaching anything to your auto. It can be easily moved to hide while not in use and your GPS easily removed to take with you. Excellent to use in a rental car or another vehicle.

Find it to be easier to use than the window mount. I can position it exactly where I want it so I don't have to take my eyes off the road. It works well with the Garmin.

I purchased this with my Garmin Nuvi GPS as I didn't want to use a suction cup mount on my windshield. Even if you don't leave the suction cup mount permanently attached, they still leave a mark on the windshield, alerting potential thief's that a GPS unit is in the car.
I was slightly concerned that the 'friction' of this mount might not be enough to handle my somewhat spirited driving. However, in over a year of using this (not full time) it has never moved once.
It's so easy to pull this off your dashboard and stash it before pulling into a parking lot. It even stores in my glove compartment with no issues.
Highly recommended!

Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for nüvi Series and StreetPilot C5XX Series GPS Navigators (C530, C550, and C580) After reading reviews of possible theft of a GPS when using a windshield mount, I decided to get a Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for the nuvi 255W that was just purchased.
Found the dashboard mount to exceed my expectations with stability, ease of adjustment and vision. Totally satisfied.
