Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
GPS mode: The unit delivers reliable navigation with pre-loaded 2D or 3D maps for all 50 states and Canada, points of interest, and automatically adjusts for day or night viewing. The touch-screen permits easy input for stored addresses, a point of interest, or a city center as a destination, and detours around areas you wish to avoid. "Text-to-Speech" technology clearly pronounces all street names over the built-in speaker to guide you to your destination without the need to take your eyes off the road or fumble with a map. A USB cable connects the unit to your PC for updating music and pictures, or charging the battery. SD card slot, including a 2 GB SD card, allows the navigator to double as a portable MP3 player or picture viewer. The unit can be powered by an adapter that plugs into a car cigarette lighter, or for portability, via its built-in rechargeable Li-Ion battery that provides about 2 hours of operation on an 8-hour charge. Backup Camera Mode: The camera and transmitter are powered by the cables that power your vehicle's reverse lights. When you put your vehicle into reverse gear, your reversing lights turn on and power is sent to the camera and the transmitter, sending out a video signal. The GPS unit then automatically switches over to the camera view. When you take your vehicle out of reverse gear, the reverse lights go out and the camera stops sending an image. At the same time the unit will stop showing the camera's image and return to the previous function. Package contains:[ 4.3-inch GPS TFT-LCD Touch Screen 8909T Wireless Backup Camera kids Wireless clip-on Receiver Preloaded GPS software 2GB SD card Secure Window Mount Holder USB cable Cigarette lighter power adapter User Manual and CD]

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Good, but...   November 8, 2008
Bad at backing up (North Dakota)
PROS:
1) You will not find more responsive customer support - ANYWHERE. I got very fast responses and where help was to be had, they provided it - first class.

2) Good value - a backup camera and GPS together for less than $300! I figure the GPS cost an extra $100, and it is worth that.

3) The suction mount is STRONG. I have my mounted up near the mirror. You don't really see the device from head-on.

CONS:
1) Installation TOTALLY frustrating. I used the electrical connectors supplied. These did not provide an adequate connection and the camera was useless. The screen would flicker so much and go back and forth from the camera to GPS that it was useless. I thought there was something wrong with the unit. I went back to the wiring... The connectors had actually cut through the trucking wiring. The metal part of the connector is much, much, much too small. I soldered the connections and things improved a LOT. DO NOT use the included connectors. They should not be included with the unit. You get the idea that they will work. Trust me, they don't.

2) Interference - If you are around other devices (I think 2.4 GHZ) you will get interference. If I am out in the middle of nowhere, it works well. A disadvantage of a wireless unit. A hard-wired unit would probably eliminate this.

3) Unless you want the unit on all the time, you must turn it off when you get out of your vehicle, then back on again when you get back in. Garmin has a nice feature that senses when external power is stopped, and the unit turns off automatically. Then when you turn on the vehicle, it senses this and turns back on.

4) If you use the screen-dimming feature, it does not come back on when you put the vehicle in reverse. The camera works, but the screen is dimmed so it is useless. So, if you want it to work whenever you want it to work, you cannot use the dimming feature, and you can't turn it off between trips. (A lighted GPS on the dash is just inviting people to break in at night.)

5) The GPS can take several minutes to start working. The manual says 3 minutes. The Garmin I use works almost immediately.

6) The GPS is not accurate. It will tell me I have reached my destination about 300 feet before I have. If I make a wrong turn, it takes 300-400 feet to realize it before it recalculates. It will actually show that I am traveling down the route it suggests after I have turned on to another street! (I tried recalibrating the GPS - this did not help.)

7) You will need a 4-wheel drive amphibious vehicle! I got directions to a rural address. Fortunately I have 4-wheel drive. It directed me to drive section lines (the space between sections - usually a dirt path between two fields - sometimes not even that.) A few times I came up to sloughs (sort of like a lake but dirty and slimy) and it wanted me to drive through. I decided not to. It did recalculate as I kept driving. I finally got there, but I think I surprised a few hunters along the way.

I had hoped for better GPS - and the installation could have been easy if the manufacturer had supplied accurate instructions, or better connectors. (The problem is that the camera wires are very small gauge - maybe 25% the size of the truck wiring.

I WOULD BUY IT AGAIN. What I was really looking for was the backup camera, and the GPS for $100 was a nice addition. It will get me close enough if I don't expect it to take me right to where I need to go. The Garmin takes me right there - even tells me which side of the street!

2 out of 5 stars First Impression   August 17, 2008

I've only been using this a few days, but so far, disappointed. The installation was pretty straightforward, but not perfect. In CA the camera blocks part of the registration stickers on upper lic. plate. On some trucks you may not be able to use the lower lic. plate mount. The camera signal seems verrrry sensitive. Sometimes the screen flickers so much it is almost useless. This is my first GPS, so I don't know how they compare. They use DESTINATOR7 software. Seems like there are still bugs in it. Not all screen controls work and not all directions are accurate. I'm still fine tuning, but so far DOESN'T seem WORTH THE $300 (?)

I waited to write this review to make sure this product was as good as it seemed. We bought a 2006 Tacoma that had no navigation or backup camera like our Pilot does that is built in. I researched alot of GPS's as I did not want separate monitors on dash. I also needed to change the setting to get the backup camera on the screen after we added dual headset DVD's and hardwired XMradio it no longer would show image on screen..I e-mailed Joe and had an answer within hours. The navigation has been as good as the one in our Honda..it has been really reliable..the hardest thing is hearing the speech as it is not like a built in that cuts off the stereo sound but you can still see the screen just fine. I can even tell how fast my husband is really going when not using the mapping feature :)4UCam 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator Touch Screen with Wireless BACKUP CAMERA Day & Night MP3, Image Viewer, Video Player

4 out of 5 stars Great GPS, Backup Camera System.   July 5, 2008

Great concept if you don't want to add a 2nd screen on your dashboard for your backup video. Great value considering most backup cameras and video sell for around $150. Your get a nice GPS for another $100. Text-to-speech feature works great, and the GPS also dims automatically at night. You usually find these features in higher end systems. I had trouble getting the video. There are 2 channels (for an additional camera). I've sent an email explaining my problem and within the hour I received a response with instructions in how to fix the problem. That's great customer service!!! All I had to do was change the channel. Sounds easy, but that part of the set up menu, was in Chinese. That's why I never figured it out on my own. One thing I would like to improve on, is on the "status bar" at the bottom. The characters are a bit small, that includes the directions, next turn, speed and time remaining. Most GPS use a dark bar with big characters that are easy to read. Maybe in the future with a software upgrade this may change. I would definitely buy this product again. Besides, most of the popular GPS don't offer the backup camera, so there aren't many choices out there. One more thing, the camera works great in the dark.
