Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com essential recording
One of the earliest things that we learned about Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart was that the duo had style. In their first few MTV videos, including "Sweet Dreams" and "Love Is a Stranger," they were just as notable for their androgynous suits and rubber utility coverall, as they were for their ice box synthetic dance beats. But as Eurythmics continued to churn out one hit after another, something else became refreshingly apparent: In the midst of all of the impersonal drum machines and frozen electronics, Lennox displayed both rhythm and soul. With a voice powerful enough to hold its own against genre queen Aretha Franklin ("Sisters Are Doing It for Themselves"), Lennox added another dimension to the haunting moodiness of "Who's That Girl" and "Here Comes the Rain Again." Changing personas and musical stylings with every release, Eurythmics blasted out horn-infused rockers ("Would I Lie to You"), country-fied twangers ("Thorn in My Side"), and melodic brilliance ("When Tomorrow Comes"). Greatest Hits captures the band's most inspired moments and justifies all of the original fuss. --Steve Gdula

3 out of 5 stars Sweet dreams of the past   November 12, 2008
The Eurythmics were one of the flagship pop groups of the eighties. Although their first album "In the garden" did not particularly produce a hit single, in 1982 they skyrocketed to fame with "Sweet dreams (are made of this)" and, since then, they have carved their place in pop history.

This collection has some excellent songs, such as "Here comes the rain again", "Sisters are doing it for themselves", "Thorn in my side" and "The King and Queen of America" (what a song to dedicate our newest President!). There are also songs I've never heard before like "I need a man" and "Who's that girl" (which don't impress me much), and some that I've overheard and feel like pressing the forward button on my stereo every time they come around, i.e. "There must be an angel".

What surely made the Eurythmics such a hit was no doubt their landmark sound, a mixture of dance and pop, with some great horn solos like they could only play them. Yet as much as I enjoy their music and am glad to have this CD in my collection, I cannot imagine them as part of the twenty first century. Annie Lennox's spiky bright hair, her masculine appearance reminding us of the Sex Pistols, combined with the subdued, almost indeterminate look of Dave Stewart in high contrast to her... nah - they deserve their place in pop history past.

4 out of 5 stars Good songs   March 6, 2008
David A Stewart and Annie Lennox make up the Eurythmics, this has the song "Sweet Dreams are Made of These" which I remember being in the Adam Sandler movie "Big Daddy" after his son wakes up early after a weird sleep. "Here Comes the Rain Again" is great as well. Best CD to have to get the basics of the Eurythmics.

5 out of 5 stars What a duo   February 8, 2008

These 2 together as a group in the 80's rocked my world. These songs were hits and always being played on the radio or in my room, at my friends house. My favorites : Here comes the rain again, Would I lie to you, Angel, Whos that girl and There must be an angel. Another song that I loved so much was Walking on broken glass, which was not on this cd. The song that I never really cared for was Sweet Dreams.... something about it was spooky. Annie Lenox has the voice.
