As with most of John Mayer's material, this is a beautiful song with terrific lyrics. Always thoughtful stuff.

This is the worst song I have ever heard in my life. I could effin write this myself and make money doing it. How about "Gotta take a pee, gotta take a pee, gotta take a pee, gotta take a pee...."

4 out of 5 stars right thing, right time   January 6, 2009

If the song's message resonates with something going on in your life, it's going to resonate in a BIG way, because it is a powerful elaboration of that theme. (The repetition is part and parcel of that.) It was an excellent match for the story of the "Bucket List" movie and some people will find it applies to their lives as well as the lives of the characters in the film.

If, however, it doesn't speak to what's happening in your life, you're going to find it trite and monotonous.

I think this says less about the work itself than about different people's receptiveness to different things at different points in their lives. For me, this song did something important and useful. For someone else, it's just going to seem simplistic and boring. Those are both valid viewpoints, I think.

But clearly there were enough folks in the first category to make it a decent-sized commercial success.

Just sayin.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointment   November 6, 2008

John Mayer, you disappoint me. To have shown such promise, and wasted it on such easy-listening tripe - it's really a shame.

Everyone releases a dud at some point - let's hope that this is a pothole in the road of your career, and not a burned bridge.
