4 out of 5 stars Welcome Back   October 20, 2008

As a fan of JB's earlier albums (the stuff he did post-Lawyers always left me somewhat indifferent), I'm happy to report this is a superb comeback. No frills, no big-budget label dollars behind him. Just the man, his unaging voice, his sharp eye and his way with a melody. I've heard this three times since I got it and find very little to quibble about (some of the production buries the acoustic guitars a tad but that's a very minor complaint). I especially loved Drums Of War which really reached me in a way few songs have in quite a long time. Nothing wrong here and long-time fans will definitely enjoy his return. In a year that's seen so many rock veterans resurface, Jackson Browne's presence is more than welcome!

5 out of 5 stars Nice to hear Rock-n-Roll Activisim through Music!   October 19, 2008

I am very glad that I can still count on rock-n-roll to voice concern & care on current events and the world state of affairs in general. There are more of us out here that are praying & searching for peace, that are deeply worried about Mother Earth, that care and hurt for future generations. Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Eagles, Sheryl Crow & many others, keep telling the truth out there!! Awesome!
Love the CD & Jackson didn't let me down at all!

1 out of 5 stars aptly titled   October 16, 2008

I truly love JB, whose albums have been played throughout my adult life, but in this case I'm sorry to say I think the title fits all too well -- time (the conqueror) appears to have eroded Jackson's once formidable song-writing skills. With so much great music to choose from and the ability to assemble the best songs from any given album on electronic devices, PC in my case, I prefer not to waste my time on mediocre songs. In the case of this CD, the title tract is a borderline keeper but the rest aren't worth listening to repeatedly to try and make them more palatable. Contrast that to The Pretender or I'm Alive which you knew had 8/8 and 10/10 keepers respectively on your first listen. I suspect is has to do with being more motivated to write great stuff when you're struggling to succeed or in pain. I also suspect no one is more aware of the shortcomings of this album than the artist himself.

Jackson Brown writes great music, but every ten years or so he really hit the nail on the head and touches his audience.

3 out of 5 stars Politics   October 14, 2008

I love Jackson - and if you know anything about him, you know that he is always a radical, political guy! In this time, when you cannot escape all of the politics everywhere, it would have been nice if this CD was just a bit less political. Still good - just bad timing!
