Amazon.com Who knew Jonathan Rhys Meyers had such an aching, lovely croon? In August Rush, he supplies his own vocals in the role of an Irish indie-rock singer, and it's a testament to his skill that he doesn't embarrass himself on Van Morrison's "Moondance." (He's even better on Lucas Reynolds' "Something Inside.") This is fairly representative of this CD's flavor: thoughtful, adult but not bland--typically, you hear a lot of cello throughout. John Ondrasik, stepping out from his Five for Fighting persona, wrote new material, though the best song, "King of the Earth," is an unreleased one by his main project that boasts superb, elegant production by Bill Bottrell. Intriguingly, guitar virtuoso Kaki King is the hand double for Freddie Highmore, who plays the film's child prodigy. Her two instrumentals, "Bari Improv" and "Ritual Dance," are treats for lovers of inventive acoustic playing, who should also enjoy the self-explanatory "Dueling Guitars." John Legend sounds aching on "Someday," though the cover of "God Bless the Child," by Chris Botti and Paula Cole, feels a little lite. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

One of the Best Movies and Soundtracks of the Last Ten Years. November 24, 2008 Liolania (Hippyville USA) Having watched August Rush at least 15-20 times, the music is forever ingrained in my memory. I saw it three times in the theatre and bought it immediately when it came out on DVD. It took me the better part of a year to buy the soundtrack, but once I did (last week), I have not stopped playing it!!! I will at the outset, just get my minor complaints out. On the second track "Bach/Break" the beautiful cello that is interspersed throughout the track in the movie is missing. There is only cello in the beginning on the soundtrack version, which is very disapointing because it was was made the track so good!!! I also have the same feeling for "Elger/Something Inside". Also missing is the beautiful organ piece in the film where August is experiementing and composing on an organ. A few version of Jonathan Rhys Meyeres singing "Moondance" would have been nice too, but oh well. Other than those very minor quibbles, this soundtrack is leaps and bounds ahead of 99% of the movie soundtracks that come out in that this soundtrack is consistently good. From the music taken straight out of the film tracks 1-10, to the music that fills the end credits, tracks 11-14; every single track is solid. The accoustic instrumentals "Bari Improv" and "Ritual Dance" by Kaki King are absolutely superb! Also, the beautiful "Raise it Up" is a very encouraging piece of gospel music with the lovely voice of Jamila Simone Nash. Although it would have been preferable to hear Leon Thomas III sing "La Bamba" accoustically like he does in the movie, rather than a full instrumental version. Regardless of my minor complaints, this is a soundtrack that will be enhanced by seeing the movie, but it is not necassary to have seen the movie to enjoy this music, it is just flat out great music. God Bless ~Amy
BY FAR, ONE OF THE BEST! November 23, 2008 Diane L. Osgood (newport beach) Few movie sound tracks cover the range and quality of music this CD accomplishes! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it
Feel the Magic of Music November 11, 2008 H. Minson (Salt Lake, UT USA) I have never been more pleased with a CD purchase in my life. At first I was worried that it might not have some of the songs that were sung by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, but I was pleased to find out that it contains the entire song not just the clips that were played in the movie. Although the music isn't mixed the same way that it is in the film all of the songs are there. I tried to multitask while listening to it and found myself sucked right into the music again. I may not have gotten the other work done that I was trying to do but I enjoyed every minute of the music I was listening to. If you liked what you heard in the movie buy the soundtrack! You won't be sorry.
A musical score that's better than anything I've heard in years! November 9, 2008 Candis H. Sutton (Algonac, Michigan USA) I just can't seem to get enough of this soundtrack! The combination of classical and rock flows with an incredible amount of clarity. The blending of so many styles and forms is genius. When I am not watching the movie, I'm listening to the soundtrack.
Awesome movie and soundtrack November 6, 2008 Ernie Mink (Denver, CO) Upon me and my girlfriend seeing this movie, we were touched beyond words, and moved by how much I related and connect with "August Rush". If you notice, you can hear the style from a deceased Windham Hill artist, Michael Hedges, who innovated the style you hear when the boy is playing first to the suprise of two of the characters walking in and in the park with another character. This really is very important for this movie, and shows the connection the boy has with music both universally and emotionally. God loves us and one way is by allowing us to hear the music, because the universe echos with the sounds of music. A truly unique, awesome and beautiful movie that is at the top of my list. You will never forget this movie that will be a classic forever.
