I've tried several kind of portable speakers for my iPod and they all had very little output power. These ones are great for what they are: small portable iPod speaker.

I was excited to get these in the mail. My product came with a broken door and the sound was awful - distorted, crackly, and overblown even at very low volumes. Not worth the money and the plastic doors are flimsy. In a similar price range, check out the JBL On Tour.

They are cute and somewhat user friendly, but the sound is really bad and not even worth the small amount I paid for them. I won't even bother trying to return them.

I purchased this speaker set up for its small size and AA battery power. My first reaction after playing my Ipod on this was "wow, this has big sound for a small set up". I have used a few other compact speakers systems and sound lacks and no battery option on the speaker itself drain the ipod too quickly. I was looking for good sound and I found it. Don't get me wrong, this is not big bass or a real thumper but it does sound good and is loud enough to hear around the house.
After using this system for a month now, I am truly impressed with the battery life. I do a lot of long distance float/camp trips and keeping an Ipod charged is a real challenge. Since this unit runs on its own batteries, the life of the Ipod is much longer as well. I read on the description that this has a 40 hour battery life. It does and more.
The only part I don't like about this unit is the closing devise on the battery compartment. It opens very easily and is spring activated. The tiny spring is easily damaged so keeping the battery compartment closed is an issue.

The description of this product is lacking. If Maxwell were smarter they would add more detail with specifics to their description. I bought this hoping it was what I was looking for. It certainly was; this is a great product.
The unit is compact and comes with a USB cable (which pulls power from your laptop or PC to the unit so you dont need a wall plug). Don't sweat if you dont have a laptop, it also takes 4 AA batteries to operate. It also comes with the small cable to hook your iPOD (or any MP3 Player with a standard 1/8" headphone output jack).
You can even use the same cable to hook your laptop up to these speakers so you can watch movies on your laptop and use these speakers as the audio! Great for the kids when on vacation.
When you get it out of the box everything is there ready to go. I folds up and is about the size of of 4 CD cases when put together. Fits great right into any laptop bag or backpack for traveling. Exact dimensions are 2.25"d x 4.75"l x 3.75"h. It also has an output so you can use a subwoofer with it, headphones or another speakers system.
The unit also puts out some pretty good volume for a little guy! Great for your hotel stays or anywhere else.
If it breaks I will buy another one. Overall this unit is ideal for travel and anyone looking for portable external volume out of their iPOD or any MP3 player or anyone looking for external laptop speakers.
